Tooth Extractions

When we think of our teeth, the idea of parting with even one might seem daunting. But there are moments in our oral health journey where starting afresh means letting go. At Medinet Dental Surgery, we bring a compassionate touch to tooth extractions, ensuring the experience is as smooth and comfortable as possible, especially for our little ones or those with dental anxiety.

When would I need a tooth extraction?

In most cases, tooth extraction is a last resort for a tooth that is too far gone. These are a few cases where we may advise it:

  • Severe decay
  • Impacted teeth
  • Orthodontic overcrowding
  • Broken or damaged teeth

What can I expect during the extraction procedure?

There are two methods for tooth extraction that depend on the location and extent of the damage to the tooth. However, the first step is to determine if extraction is necessary.

  • X-rays are taken, if necessary, to determine the extent of the decay and position of the tooth
  • Before removing the tooth, we will administer local anaesthetic to numb the area.
  • Using specialised tools, the tooth is gently loosened and taken out or removed in pieces.
  • Once out, we will apply gauze to the site to allow a blood form to clot.

The aftercare for tooth extraction is essential, and our team will provide all the guidelines to ensure swift healing you will be given a pack with extra gauze and post-op instructions.

Is the procedure painful?

At Medinet Dental Surgery, your comfort is our priority. Thanks to modern anaesthetics and our experienced techniques, you will experience little to no discomfort during the extraction.

How should I care for the extraction site?

We will provide you with all the necessary tips for caring for your extraction site. At the same time, it heals, but here are a few things to take note of:

  • Rest appropriately
  • Eat soft foods
  • Avoiding disturbing the extraction site
  • Keep your mouth clean with rinses
  • Take your prescribed medication

Are there alternatives to tooth extractions?

Whenever possible, we aim to save natural teeth. Extractions are a last resort when other treatments, like fillings, crowns, or root canals, are not optional. Each case is unique, and we’ll always discuss all possible treatments with you.
